WHAT IS A FALSE PROPHET? A prophet is etymologically 'someone who speaks for someone else', and literally means 'spokesman'. The Greek translators of the Bible adopted it into Christian usage, frequently using it to mean 'one who interprets the will of the gods to humans.' The word prophecy is a derivative of the same root word propheta, meaning fable, fame, fate. Source: Dictionary of Word Origins, by John Ayto.

Anyone who speaks for someone else can be said to be a prophet, therefore it is fair to say that a false prophet is anyone, who either purposely or not (regardless of intent), misspeaks or misinterprets the meaning of another's words. All spiritual and religious teachers past and present, all preachers, ministers, gurus, monks, disciples, pastors, priests, popes, rabis, anyone (including you and I) who claims to be speaking for and interpreting the meaning of God's word is either a true or a false prophet.

Proper interpretation is required for real understanding, and cannot be acquired without seeking. Words are symbols for meanings, and meanings change and evolve with society. What a word infers to one person is not necessarily what it infers to another. This makes careful investigation critical when attempting to interpret scripture. You cannot rely on your own or another's interpretation, but must discover what the words meant in the language, time, and culture they were being used.

Jesus said,

"WHOEVER SEARCHES will find. It will be opened (completely obvious) to him."
-Jesus, The Gospel of Thomas

"Let whoever seeks not cease from his seeking until he finds. When he finds he will be troubled. When he is troubled, he will marvel and will reign over all."
-Jesus, The Gospel of Thomas

"WHOEVER DRINKS from my MOUTH will be as I am, and I shall be that person, and
the hidden things will be revealed to that person
."

-Jesus, The Gospel of Thomas

For generations religions have sanctified men to go out and spread their prophecies (interpretations) of God's commandments to the masses.  They compete for regions and obedience to their doctrines, and in legions they march out proclaiming and defending their faith, and enlisting others to their cause.  Look at what hides in the word RELIGIONS. (legions, lies, egos...)

Christianity claims to be the true messenger of Christ, but there are a reported 38,000 different denominations of Christianity because they disagree over interpretation.  The truth can have only one reality, all other interpretations are false. Therefore Christianity (to name just one religion) is full of false prophets. Which denomination do you trust for the truth about your salvation?

James, disciple and early church founder warns:

"My brothers, do not be MANY TEACHERS, knowing that we will receive greater judgment.  For we ALL stumble in many ways."

"Who is wise and knowing among you? Let him show his works by his good behavior, in meekness of wisdom. But if you have bitter jealousy and contention (difference of opinion) in your heart, do not boast and lie against truth. This is not the wisdom coming down from above, but is earthly, beastly, devilish. For where jealousy and contention are, there is confusion and every foul deed. But the wisdom from above is firstly truly pure, then peaceable, forbearing, yielding, full of mercy and of good fruits, not partial and not pretended. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for the ones making peace." -James, Chapter 3

If you do not question what you are taught, and search out meaning for yourself, then you are not a SEEKER and you will never FIND and KNOW the TRUTH! Throughout the ages, religions have taught their misunderstandings (false prophecies) as law, and have created dogmas, rituals, and idolatries that need to be exposed.

Jesus tells us,

"Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy concerning you, saying: This people draws near to Me with their mouth, and with their lips honor Me; but their heart is far from Me... in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the ordinances of men." -Mt. 15:9

"But false prophets were also among the people, as also false teachers will be among you (he was speaking to the disciples starting the church), who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, and denying the Master who has bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves, and MANY will follow their destructive ways, BY WHOM THE WAY OF TRUTH WILL BE EVIL SPOKEN OF (they will say the real way of truth is evil). And by covetousness, with well-turned words, they will use you for gain." -2 Peter 2:1-3

“You must be continually looking out so that no one will lead you away as the spoils of his robbery by means of the empty enticement of his philosophies [his religious speculations (Acts 17:18)] that are in accordance with human tradition and the world’s elementary teachings.” —Col. 2:8

“there are some who are disturbing you and wanting to distort the Good Message about the Anointed One.”  -Gal. 1:7

In studying the history of Christianity, as outlined in this article The First Battle for the Bible, it's EVIDENT these things DID come to pass in the building of Christianity, and that those false teachings are still alive today.  The majority of Christians accept false teachings as fact, and fail to become seekers. They set out blindly devoted with the best of intentions to spread "The Good News" across the globe with conviction and zeal. If you have not researched the history of Christianity, I urge you do so as a serious  truth seeker.

Quote from Religions of The World 2nd Edition: In their teaching, the early Christians used collections of Jesus' stories or sayings as well as the sermons and lessons of his disciples. His followers passed on these materials orally, and some may have written them down even before the gospels were prepared, about 35-70 years after Jesus' death. The early Christian preachers who preserved the oral tradition shaped it for their own uses and adapted their "records" of Jesus' words and acts to highlight meaning important to the expanding church. How then can we determine what material is authentically the teaching of Jesus?

Jesus said you must SEEK, KNOCK, and ASK before His mysteries concerning SALVATION will be revealed.  Most people NEVER do this as instructed:

"ASK and it will be given to you; SEEK, and ye shall find; KNOCK, and it will be open to you. For each one that ASKS receives, and the one that SEEKS finds; and to the one KNOCKING it will be opened." -Mt 7:7-8

Jesus spoke in parables, because what He was teaching was only meant to be understood by his students:

"And coming near, the disciples (Greek translates as a learner; pupil) said to Him, Why do You speak to them in parables? And answering, He said to them, Because it has been given to you (learners; pupils) to know (understand) the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but it has not been given to those (non-learners; non-pupils). For whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have over-abundance. But whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him." -Mt 13:10

"And He taught them many things in parables, and said to them in His Teaching: Listen! Behold! ..." -Mk 4:2-3

Now, as in old, the Synagogues, Temples, and Churches are full of FALSE PROPHETS teaching their misunderstandings as TRUTH. The resemblance between the False Prophets of old and Christianity today is undeniable. Read what Jesus says to the CHURCHES in Revelation.

Jesus tells us in Matthew Chapter 7:

  • "Do not judge that you may not be judged..." (Religions thrive on the judging of right and wrong.)

  • "Why do you look on the twig that is in the eye of your brother, but do not see the log in your eye..." (Religions point out sin and dictate righteousness, not recognizing that they are teaching false prophecies.)

  • "Go in through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leads to death. And MANY are the ones that go through it. For narrow is the gate, and constricted is the way that leads into life, and FEW are the ones who find it." (Christianity is not the few but the MANY, and is even called 'THE MAJORITY'.  Christianity is spread across the globe as the dominate religion, so I do not see how anyone can say Christianity is the narrow, constricted way.)

  • "Beware of FALSE PROPHETS who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inside they are plundering wolves..."

  • Not Everyone who says to me Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of Heaven, but the ones who do the WILL of My Father in Heaven..."

  • MANY will say to me in that day Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name?..." (CHRISTIANITY is the only MANY prophesying in the name of Christ. Also, please note that the word antichrist hides within the word Christianity - a coincidence, I think not.)

  • "In Your name cast out demons?..." (Who besides the Christians use the phrase, "In Jesus name we...")

  • "In Your name do many works of power?..." (In the 2004 election, President Bush won 79% of the twenty six million Evangelical votes, which was enough to win him re-election. If controlling who becomes the U.S. President isn't power, then what is?)

  • And then I will declare to them, I never KNEW you; depart from Me, those WORKING LAWLESSNESS." (Jesus tells us MANY will think they have taught His message, but will find they never really understood Him, and that they have been promoting lies in His name.)

In the beginning of Revelation, Jesus spends much time warning THE 7 CHURCHES to REPENT (The Greek origin of 'Repent' means to think differently, reconsider). Keep in mind that ANGEL in Greek simply translates as MESSENGER.
